Because this has nothing to do with Trump’s “illegal strikes” in Iran, and it has everything to do with the midtermsAnd when you’re in campaign mode ...and when your old narratives aren’t working ...you start pulling things out of the magical hat:
And now the newest one: “Trump is illegally starting a war.” With the added bonus: “He lied ...he promised no wars.”
Here’s the problem: That last one only works if you pretend Trump promised isolationism. He didn’t. What millions of Americans agree on is Trump ran against endless wars:
❌ No 20-year occupations.
❌ No nation-building.
❌ No Iraq/Afghanistan sequel.
And there’s a difference between endless war and deterrence.
There’s a difference between a ground invasion and limited military operations designed to stop a threat from becoming untouchable.
Trump has been publicly consistent on one thing for years:
. . .
Iran cannot be allowed to get a nuclear weapon...
(He literally said in the State of the Union that the U.S. hasn’t heard Iran say the “secret words”: “We will never have a nuclear weapon.”)
Let’s clear up the civics: Congress declares war.
The President is Commander-in-Chief. That split has existed since 1787. After Vietnam, Congress passed the War Powers Resolution (1973) to put guardrails on modern conflicts, including notification requirements and time limits unless Congress authorizes continuation.
But here’s what War Powers does not require:
❌ It doesn’t require the President to call every member of Congress for “permission.”
❌ It doesn’t require a pre-approval vote for limited operations.
❌ It doesn’t turn every strike into a constitutional crisis.
And here’s the part that exposes the political strategy:
Senate Democrats literally tried to stop him with a War Powers vote... and it FAILED.
So after all the “illegal war” headlines, when it came time to use the tool Congress actually has...
❌ They didn’t have the votes.
❌ That doesn’t end debate.
❌ But it absolutely exposes the Democrat tactic
When the old storylines don’t stick, you grab a new one that scares people and you repeat it until November. Americans are tired of being manipulated with civics theater.
